Stark Photography

Daniel and Lindsay Stark own Stark Photography based in Portland. They are wedding and portrait photographers known across the country for their artistic weddings and striking portraits.

Daniel came to us with an interesting solution to the problem facing many photographers; how to present portraits and weddings (two different types of photography) without giving the impression that one is more important than the other. To achieve this Daniel had created preliminary mockups to using visual styling cues to essentially create one site with two sides: the wedding side would use light shades and the portrait side would be darker. Typography and complimentary layout ties them together while still allowing for a different feel between the two halves.

When we see mockups, the first things we think about are, "How will this look on a tablet? ...a phone?" We sometimes get mockups from designers that have tablet and phone layouts fully designed, but just as often we don't and so we create them. And this was the case here. Together Daniel and Mike discussed, cajoled, teased and laughed their way to a final design.

The result is a distinctive site designed to showcase big images from both sides of their business.

Small business owners ofter underestimate the power of a beautifully coded website. A well designed website without a solid foundation is just decoration. Mike’s skills are second to none: he’s smart with decisions, able to explore outside the box and makes roadblocks disappear.

Our site really is a masterpiece and every detail is perfect. We couldn't have done it without Mike...he’s obviously talented, but equally important is how easy he is to work with. He offers incredibly helpful insight, personal attention and expert guidance throughout the process.
